ALBERT EINSTEIN MEDICAL FOUNDATION
AMERICAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES FOUNDATION
From villages in rural India to the corridors of power in Brussels, Transparency International gives voice to the victims and witnesses of corruption. We work together with governments, businesses and citizens to stop the abuse of power, bribery and secret deals.
As a global movement with one vision, we want a world free of corruption. Through chapters in more than 100 countries and an international secretariat in Berlin, we are leading the fight against corruption to turn this vision into reality.
OVERVIEW
One global movement sharing one vision: a world in which government, business, civil society and the daily lives of people are free of corruption.
In 1993, a few individuals decided to take a stance against corruption and created Transparency International. Now present in more than 100 countries, the movement works relentlessly to stir the world’s collective conscience and bring about change. Much remains to be done to stop corruption, but much has also been achieved, including:
-
the creation of international anti-corruption conventions
-
the prosecution of corrupt leaders and seizures of their illicitly gained riches
-
national elections won and lost on tackling corruption
-
companies held accountable for their behaviour both at home and abroad.
GLOBAL REACH, LOCAL KNOWLEDGE
With more than 100 national chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, we work with partners in government, business and civil society to put effective measures in place to tackle corruption.
INDEPENDENT AND ACCOUNTABLE
We are politically non-partisan and place great importance on our independence. We alone determine our programs and activities – no donor has any input into Transparency International’s policies. Our sources of funding are made transparent as is our spending.
OUR MISSION
Our Mission is to stop corruption and promote transparency, accountability and integrity at all levels and across all sectors of society. Our Core Values are: transparency, accountability, integrity, solidarity, courage, justice and democracy.
OUR VISION
Our Vision is a world in which government, politics, business, civil society and the daily lives of people are free of corruption.

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES ARE:
-
As coalition-builders, we will work cooperatively with all individuals and groups, with for-profit and not-for-profit corporations and organisations, and with governments and international bodies committed to the fight against corruption, subject only to the policies and priorities set by our governing bodies.
-
We undertake to be open, honest and accountable in our relationships with everyone we work with, and with each other.
-
We will be democratic, politically non-partisan and non-sectarian in our work.
-
We will condemn bribery and corruption vigorously wherever it has been reliably identified.
-
The positions we take will be based on sound, objective and professional analysis and high standards of research.
-
We will only accept funding that does not compromise our ability to address issues freely, thoroughly and objectively.
-
We will provide accurate and timely reports of our activities to our stakeholders.
-
We will respect and encourage respect for fundamental human rights and freedom.
-
We are committed to building, working with and working through Chapters worldwide.
-
We will strive for balanced and diverse representation on our governing bodies.
-
As one global movement, we stand in solidarity with each other and we will not act in ways that may adversely affect other Chapters or the TI movement as a whole.
